Canadian observer here, raised in one of Toronto's working-class immigrant communities. I'm usually ambivalent toward politicians' attempts to appear "down home". But having seen this clip, I'm charmed by the fact that listening to Mrs. Obama express herself is like hearing my parents at the dinner table. And I see myself in her, being a Afro-Canadian 1st-year teacher trying to complete my graduate degree. It's compelled me to respect Michelle and her hub's candidacy in ways I haven't before.
